A Full Review: Should You Buy The Nintendo Wii?

By Claire Greenway

The Wii games console by Nintedo was released back in 2006, a complete breakthrough
in the video gaming industry.

The Wii uses interactive, motion-controlled gameplay as opposed to the industry
standard of a controller, analog stick and directional buttons. This concept makes
the Wii an attractive games console for the old and young. The previous other
games consoles were mostly for teenage boys and young men. The Wii marked the
change in video gaming.

The Wii, on the whole, is a very attractive games console. The white glossy finish
won't fail to please, and the console is the small size of three DVD boxes stacked
on top of each other, which makes it one of the smallest non-handheld games consoles
ever.

The Wii's controller is unique. Shaped like a TV remote control, it simply has
a directional keypad and several buttons. Its motion control feature makes it
the interactive controller that it is. Like the main console, the controller
is glossy white with blue lights.

One of the great things that the WiiMote has is the expansion port. This will connect
to a nunchuk, lightsaber, sword, laser gun, steering wheel, bow, crossbow, tennis racquet
and a heap of other peripherals to enhance the gameplay.

Gaming on the Wii is just brilliant. There's a huge variety of games you can buy,
from family sports to action, that all make perfect use of the console's interactive
features. You can be hooked on the Wii for hours at a time, swinging at golf balls
or shooting at enemies on your favourite game.

One of the negatives of the Wii is its graphics. The graphics on the Wii is lesser
to those of the PS2, let alone its other next-gen console competitors the xBox 360
and Playstation 3 Slim. Of course, graphics have never been Nintendo's strong point.
Luckily, the great interactive gameplay that the Wii boasts makes up for the
downside of the graphics.

Another downside is that the WiiMote consumes the batteries very quckly, as you would expect from
a wireless games controller. Be sure to use rechargeable batteries for all of the controllers that
you used, otherwise the costs could steadily go up.

Not to be a nit picker, but yet another downside to the Wii is the fact that it's huge
variety of peripherals do add up to become quite expensive, but if you compare the prices
of these addons to those of the xBox 360, they are relatively well priced.

There's now one last question; should you purchase a Wii? The console is reasonably priced at 170,
which doesn't burn too much of a hole in your pocket. This console will be great for people of all
ages. If you're looking for a console to bring your whole family together, the Nintendo Wii will
be the one for you. - 30202
