Some Quality Film Story Lines To See

By Tracie Vega

It wasn't that long ago that a trip to the corner video shop was the most convenient way to get a movie. These days you can stay at home and get movies from a movie download site. Below is a sample of some of the movies you can find using movie download sites.

It Takes 2: Surprisingly well designed comedy for children in reference to look-alikes who trade places in request to help each other. The fabulously prosperous gal has a dad who's getting ready to wed a patently terrible lady, when the orphan is getting ready to lose her best buddy, the communal employee who watches the orphanage. The doubles give extremely likable performances, as do their adult costars. Cast includes Kirstie Alley, Steve Guttenberg, Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Philip Bosco, Desmond Roberts, Ernie Grunwald, and Lawrence Dane. (101 minutes, 1995)

Prospero's Books: At first challenging although unsatisfactory adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, with most of the dialog mentioned by 87-year-old Gielgud (in the role of Prospero); the other performers are little more than an add on, and there's a mind boggling amount of nudity. The film is stuffed with shocking, layered imagery, attractive production layout and cinematography. Pleasure can rely on your patience for Greenaway's approach to the material. Cast includes John Gielgud, Michael Clark, Michel Blanc, Isabelle Pasco, and Tom Bell. (129 minutes, 1991)

Striptease: Erin Grant is a stripper at the Eager Beaver. She is trying to raise enough money to get her daughter back from her divorced jerk of a former husband. Things spin out of control for Erin when a corrupt congressman comes to the club and takes a liking to her.

La Separation: Knowingly detailed, beautifully performed journal of the simmering tension between a wedded couple (Huppert and Auteuil) as their relation falls apart. Cast includes Isabelle Huppert, Daniel Auteuil, Jerome Deschamps, Karin Viard, and Laurence Lerel. (85 minutes, 1994)

Infinity: Sugary however choppy film based on the life of Richard Feynman, whose relation with Arline Arquette in pre-WW2. N.Y.C. takes a fateful turn when he is enlisted to work on the Manhattan Project. The scientist won the Nobel Prize in 1965. Cast includes Matthew Broderick, Patricia Arquette, Peter Riegert, Dori Brenner, and James LeGros. (117 minutes, 1996)

A Good Woman: Another rendition of Oscar Wilde's Woman Windermere's Fan which was filmed a few times over the years. This time it is set in Italy instead of England and updated from the 1890s to the 1930s. A number of Wilde's British characters now are Americans; one of them is Mrs. Erlynne a sorely miscast Seek, a bankrupt adventuress who shows up in Amalfi and decides to seduce very wealthy, recently wedded Robert Windermere Umbers. Cast includes Helen Seek, Scarlett Johansson, Milena Vukotic, Stephen Campbell Moore, Mark Umbers, Tom Wilkinson, and Diana Hardcastle. (93 minutes, 2005)

Mrs. Doubtfire: Warm and gratifying comedy with earnest overtones in reference to a free spirit whose spouse divorces him after fourteen years. He couldn't bear being split apart from his 3 kids, so he camouflages himself as a dowdy British housekeeper (under an Oscar quality makeup job) and gets himself employed to look after them. Williams is in top form, and director Columbus keeps the tale and characters moderately practical in an effort to drive home a humanistic message. Cast includes Robin Williams, Sally Territory, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein, Polly Holliday, Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson. (125 minutes, 1993)

Cry for Me Billy: A drifter falls in love with an Indian gal, with catastrophic repercussions, in this vicious Western. Its title and supposed year of release keeps changing, however the film doesn't get some any better. Cast includes Harry Dean Stanton, and Don Wilbanks. (93 minutes, 1972)

Adam's Apples: This movie is a bizarre dark comedy about two very different men who have a battle of wills. It is a newly developed religious zealot versus a hard core neo-Nazi criminal. The battle of good versus evil is on. The main stars are Ulrich Thomsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolas Brom, and Paprika Steen. (German-Danish-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen)
